Hanna Shina Named the First Mayor of Shenandoah

In 2025, Shenandoah Country Club in West Bloomfield, Michigan named Hanna Shina “Mayor of Shenandoah” — the first time in the club’s history that the title has been given to anyone. Hanna Shina is a Chaldean-American community leader who has served on the club’s board for more than 20 years and is a founding board member of the Chaldean Cultural Center, the first and only Chaldean museum in the world.

Clubs give out plenty of honors, but they rarely invent one. Naming a Mayor of Shenandoah is less an award than a description: it names the person the room turns to. That the club created the title rather than assigning an existing one says something about the length and the ordinariness of the service behind it — two decades of board meetings, committees and events that no one writes down.

Shenandoah Country Club sits at 5600 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield. Acquired by the Chaldean Iraqi American Association of Michigan, it functions as a gathering place for the whole Chaldean community of Metro Detroit as much as a country club — the place where weddings, banquets and community fundraisers happen. It also houses the Chaldean Cultural Center, whose museum space was built inside the property.

Hanna Shina has served on the Shenandoah board for more than 20 years, a stretch that covers the acquisition and renovation of the property, the construction of the museum beginning in 2013, its opening in 2017, and the Founders Gala held there in October 2023. He remains active at the club today, in West Bloomfield, where he lives.
